My name is Jessica Poulisse, and I'm a new addition to the Rockford Public Schools team as the Fine Arts Support Specialist.
I graduated from East High School in 2015, then made my way to Chicago, where I pursued a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art. I worked alongside wonderful art professors and met several well-known artists throughout the city. I recently graduated and moved back to Rockford, where I live with my husband (also an East grad!), who I met during our involvement in "High School Musical" at East in 2014.
For as long as I can remember, I have been incredibly passionate about fine arts. When I was a little girl I used to sit with my sketchbook and say "I'm an artist!" At a young age, I played the violin and guitar, and then I participated in several musicals and choirs throughout high school and college. My main form of artmaking is painting. I love the malleability and complexity of the medium, and the ability to work with an unlimited range of colors. I love painting portraits, but lately I have experimented with different styles and subjects in my work.
I come from a big family of 10 – and four serve as teachers, educators and leaders in Rockford Public Schools. My mom works at East High School as a reading specialist, and my dad teaches reading at RESA Middle School. I have always been inspired by the dedication my siblings and parents show for RPS 205, and by the passion they put into their teaching. Watching them is one of the sources that drove me to work in public education.
I am extremely excited to be on this journey with RPS 205 and to serve my hometown schools and community.
