Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year! As you know, all students are in a College and Career Readiness Academy. Academies are small learning communities that allow students to connect what they're learning in the classroom to an industry theme.
I want to share what's new this year:
1) All ninth graders will take a full-year course called College & Career Readiness. This course is designed to help students take a deep dive into our Academies to determine what Academy they belong in for grades 10,11 and 12. Students will also focus on soft skills, study skills and career awareness. 2) No more acronyms! Our Academies changed names.- BAMIT is now the Business Academy. Pathways include Business, Studio Art, Media Production, Graphic Design, and IT. - EMITT is now the Production Academy. Pathways include Engineering, Manufacturing, Industrial Tech/Fabrication, Skilled Trades, and Automotive. - HPS is now the Service Academy. Pathways include Public Safety and Education. - HS is now the Health Academy. Pathways include Nursing/PreMed, Exercise Science, and BioMed. 3) Our pathways have sponsors! Business engagement is a key component in the success of our Academies. Businesses that sponsor our pathways agree to provide work-based learning experiences for our students. This includes the Academy Expo, site visits, job shadow opportunities and internships.
As students enter their new school or return from summer break, they will see signs that reflect the new Academy names and recognition of business partners within our schools.
Contact your Academy Coach or Academy office for more information.
