The Renaissance Gifted Academy in the Rockford Public Schools affirms the need to identify students with potential at any point in their educational career and to provide the kinds of educational services which will enable them to demonstrate a level of achievement commensurate with their potential.
Based on research and common understandings about gifted programming, we welcome any student who lives in the Rockford Public School District to participate in our eligibility testing. We encourage anyone who sees potential in a child to contact the The Renaissance Gifted Academy Office for more information: a parent, a teacher, a school administrator, community member, even the student himself/herself. Please access the link on the left to locate common characteristics of gifted students. In order to take part in the testing, the student's family will need to complete a consent for testing form, this will serve as registration, and return it to:

This consent form must be received before the testing date.
Eligible students are identified through a comprehensive testing matrix. No single assessment or its results denies student eligibility. The testing matrix includes an abilities assessment covering verbal, quantitative and nonverbal components along with a writing sample. Admission to the program is based solely on a blind review of the student's scores on the testing matrix.
Eligibility testing is conducted in the year prior to enrollment. Any student wishing to apply for the program must participate in a scheduled testing session and supply, upon request, other information pertinent to the applicant’s grade level.
For our regular eligibility testing, Rockford District #205 utilizes the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT). The CogAT measures students' verbal, quantitative, and nonverbal reasoning abilities. Beginning in the fall of 2012, the Renaissance Academy Program added an additional screening measure for district third graders. In an effort to be inclusive of the diversity of our community, the Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test, NNAT2, was piloted. This process will continue during the 2013-2014 school year.

2013-2014 School Year
We have completed our eligibility testing for the 2013-2014 school year. We have also completed our newest eligibility screening, the NNAT2, of all district third graders. Families have been notified of their child's results and our newsly accepted students are making course requests and visiting our schools so they can start to feel at home
